Our last CQC report was published in October 2024 but was undertaken in January and February 2024.
Core fee covers 21 hours of background support hours and additional hours support are determined and agreed during the assessment period.
Fairhaven is situated approximately 100 meters from Bognor seafront. The sea can be seen from the front of the home. The building has three storeys - service users rooms are situated on each of these. There are three double rooms and seven single rooms. One room is on the ground floor. There is one communal lounge on the ground floor with a television with digital satellite channels available, a DVD player and a video player. Our dining room and laundry room are situated towards the rear of the building, as is the kitchen. There are two bathrooms; one is situated on the second floor, the other on the first floor. Both are fitted with a shower. There are four toilets within the home, two on the ground floor, one on the first floor, and one on the second floor. Service users are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own furnishings, pictures and ornaments. The service users are also encouraged to be fully involved in the choice of colours and décor in their own rooms and communal areas. Smoking is prohibited in the service users’ bedrooms due to insurance dictation. The home offers a communal lounge that provides necessary furnishings. All family and friends are made welcome. The home has an office on the ground floor a-joined to a meeting room which also has office space. The medication room can be located on the first floor. Fairhaven is registered to accommodate 10 service users who suffer from a mental disorder including learning disabilities and dementia. If any service user is over 65 this will continue to be their placement providing the home continues to meet their needs, “home for life”.
Fairhaven is a 10-bed service hat provides a homely environment with person-centred support provision. The ethos of the service is empowerment with an emphasis on the promotion of life skills and experience. We facilitate for development of life skills while working towards greater personal independence.
The following was observed and recorded by CQC during Fairhaven's recent inspection:
"The service had a positive culture that was person-centred, open and inclusive. There was a strong emphasis on putting people first. People were involved in the service within their capabilities. People assisted with meal preparation with staff support. Everyone spoke highly regarding the staff. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and CQC is the independent regulator of all health and social care in England. We are given powers by the government to register, monitor and inspect all health and care services. staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service support this practice. "

To provide effective communication systems throughout the home and the wider community that display both sensitive and responsible feedback.
To provide continuous education, support, guidance and help to all members of the staff team to enable them to meet their own personal needs and the needs of the home and those of the service users.
